Florentine Style Engraving
When one speaks of artistic craftsmanship, one speaks of Florence, of great talent and skill, of outstanding creativity and last but not least of technique: all indispensable elements for creating a unique work of art.
Engraving is an example of this. With only the skill of the hands and a few simple tools ( various types of chisels and several other utensils) the artisan bestows upon the metal of a piece of jewellery the effect of velvet, silk, or damask or decorates it to create the effect of lace, or frames it with a border or gives it an infinity of floral motifs in order to create a distinctive and unique piece.
These are the characteristics of the Florentine style which have made it famous.
The engraving courses held by the maestro Riccardo Mazzantini offer drawing lessons first and then a practical learning experience as in that of a workshop; design and drawing, preparation of the tools, use of the chisels , practical excercises important for mastering the techniques, the creation of small figures in low relief, the work of cloisonnè and champlevè for the enamelling, engraving 'in negative' of a coat of arms for a seal, the technique of damascening and the final finishing stages of a piece.
The course are done in cycles of 3 weeks (the first three of every month), 16 hours per week for a total of 48 hours a cycle.
